Irish
language
In spoken Irish the language is called Gaeilg in Ulster, Gaeilge in Connacht and Gaelainn in Munster. It is the Connacht version which is most widely known, and usually adopted by learners of Irish as the name of the language.
To say that something is in Irish we have two options: i nGaeilge (literally 'in Irish') and as Gaeilge (literally 'out of Irish'). The former is used more widely. The latter is only used in Munster dialects and only refers to spoken language: labhraítear as Gaeilge one speaks 'out of Irish' but scríobhtar i nGaeilge one writes 'in Irish'.
